Show in Review: 4/20 at Triple B

Pre-Show Shenanigans

I spent most of the day struggling to move from soreness of the night before at Metal Allegiance. Lazing about on my couch writing another show review much like this one and binge watching Bo-Jack Horseman on Netflix. Finally I sucked it up enough to dye the faded ends of my hair red before heading down to the illustrious Fremont Street.

The Venue 

Triple B had a good crowd outside ready for ticketing and a pat down. Security did not pat down the ladies in the line at the time I was going through it. So I guess you could just hide your razor blades on your gal and get away with it because they are only checking you and her bag. In all honesty I am joking about that last statement please don’t be the shit bag that brings in weapons and drugs via your arm candy/ danger mule. That being said this does speak to the safety risk of the crowd. If there is going to be a pat down it should be for all attendees not just one half of them. Get the female staff member out and keep things equal. There is a fine line between making a woman uncomfortable and making the whole crowd safe. Whether its to prevent drugs from getting in or weapons I would honestly like to see a  bit more diligence.

The Show

Pure: Now when I think of the word pure I think of some small frail virgin adorned in a white robe and blissfully awaiting her impending sacrifice to the dark lord . Butttt that wasn’t the case here. This is their first live show as a band. Their drummer Shane Hansen and Guitarist Chase Long are based out of Vegas, while their vocalist and basist are based out of neighboring Arizona and California. Lucky for us they came together for a purely delightful display of musical talent and crowd enthusing energy.

You wouldn’t guess it from how they sounded but they have practiced together as a band only a few times prior to the show. This is an example of what new bands should sound like when they start doing live shows. This being the drummer second band in the last 6 years , all the members have gotten their feet wet with the pressures of live performances prior to forming Pure. They had a couple little hiccups during their set but we’re overall a joy to watch and head-bang to. Words From Aztecs Vocalist Skylar Enneper even joined them on stage for a song. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Words from Aztecs:  The Las Vegas local veterans had some issues with equipment roughly half way through their set but made it fun for the fans by having front man Skylar talk to the crowd in between songs while the sound tech and band trouble shot the issues. I periodically would scream at my buddy Steven “if know this shit you better sing it!!!” among other randomness. (I pormise i was 100% sober unless ice water masks a tasteless liquor that i didn’t pay for). It made for a fun headbanging time.

The mosh pit started to go behind me with a whole 3 to 5 people. Crowd killing/ hardcore dancing was shut down by security quickly. Upon entering security advised concert goers that as long as you don’t start dragging others in they could hardcore dance their hearts out. I’d say they made it sounds like they were going to be more lenient then they ended up being. It discouraged most from participating in event old school moshing for most of the night.

After the Burial: Of course they started with my favorite song from them Lost in the Static. Really it was the gateway to adding these hard hitting bad asses to more and more playlists.

Vocalist Anthony Notarmaso made it a more intimate and personal show since they were headlining and could go beyond the normal 30 minute set mark without being dicks to another band. He told us about how 11/26 was about his daughter and that the song title was her birthday. Crowd members shouted out other song requests such as  .

Playing some old (Collapse, Lost in the Static, A Wolf Amongst Ravens )  and some new with songs off their new album Evergreen (which is AMAZING BTW) that was released last week (Behold the Crown & Exit, Exist). The audience was the 4th group to hear their new songs live. Between what semblance of a mosh pit there was

and the extremely in-sync head  banging from the crowd the energy was through the rough. These gents are great performers and killed it.

Anthony continued  to say some words of encouragement to the crowd letting them know the journey to where they are as a band and as people has been a roller coaster much like everyone else’s lives. He continued to say that they should never to give up on their dreams even when shit gets tough.

After the show they shook hands with fans and Anthony stayed on the edge of the stage signing autographs and taking selfies with fans. It is really great to see bands at this level who care about interacting with fans beyond some expensive meet and greet pass. It really helps to connect with those fans on a more down to earth level. they werent getting a cut of a $400 pass to be nice to people and take selfies they were doing it because they appreciate their fans support period.

The Headbang-Over

After some post show chatting with writer Stephanie Lehr and beloved scene photographer and zrockr writer courtney ware i made my way back home. Waking up to everything hurting more than the previous morning but who can resist headbanging to such amazing music and the occassional bumps and pushes in the pit.
