Show In Review: Las Vegas Pussy Dispenser; the New L.V.P.D.
The Venue
First opening in April, the Pussy Dispenser is the new spot in town for underground shows. Ran by owners of the Garth, the L.V.P.D. is nestled in what looks like the armpit of town. A secluded, undisclosed area where there’s hope for punk and metal bands, both local and touring, to get more performance opportunities in the valley. This article will describe my first time there, their second show ever, and their first show to have metal.
Situated near the epicenter of Vegas, with a 15 min walk from the nearest bus stop and a 5 min walk to the nearest source of pregaming fuel, I saw this location as an ideal spot for locals from all over to catch shows. This particular one took place April 25th. Hidden from the street and kept behind a fence, this venue felt legit. Great underground spot with indoor A/C, plenty of room for crowds and merch, and a working toilet. We sometimes forget how important a working can is. No one likes a literally shitty situation. What the hell else could a local ask for?? The floors were splattered red and the walls had light graffiti on them. No doubt more art and insults will adorn the walls of LVPD in the near future once more shows start running through it.
As for their second show, there were just two bands that night, and they were my ideal kind of metal. A couple of black metal bands, they were. First up was the local quartet Casket Raider, the only black thrashing rock n roll band in Vegas. If you saw them live it’d be easy to see what makes them sound so unique. Screeching vocals, high feedback instrumentation, ripping solos…this band still impresses, even with the vocal replacement by Gabe, their current front-man since late 2018.
Being only two bands strong, this show went by relatively quick. Before long the touring headliners were setting up. Straight out of Raider Nation, Ulthar was their name. A band grabbing influences from crust punk, along with black and death metal, their performance was a blend of atmospheric-to-high octane metal. I got to speak to the guys and buy a shirt and patch off them. They were pretty cool and had been playing a shit ton of cities lately (35 since the beginning of the year). There may be a new album by them sometime in the future, However I was unable to pry out further details to divulge at this time.
The Head Bang-Over
Such is my time at the Pussy Dispenser. Though it was more of a ‘sausagefest’ with the guy-to-girl ratio haha. But in seriousness, it was a real chill spot that helped facilitate a great night. I saw some friends there and made a few new ones too. I’m looking forward to seeing what other bands and what other styles of music they’ll be promoting next time, cause I’ll be sure to be there for that time, and the next, and the time after next.
